  1. In terms of Section 16(3)(h) of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, FSSAI has to ensure training (whether within or outside their area) of persons who are or intend to become involve^ in Food Businesses, whether as FBOs or employees or otherwise.
  2. All FBOs having Central License or State License should have at least one trained and certified Food Safety Supervisor for every 25 food handlers or part thereof on all their premises. These supervisors should in turn carry out periodic onsite training of all food handlers at least on quarterly basis and maintain record thereof for food safety audit and inspections. Food handlers in all petty food business that are registered should be trained and certified.
  3. FoSTaC Programme ‐ Food Safety Training & Certification (FoSTaC) programme is a large scale training programme for food business across the value chain. 18 Courses have been launched under this programme. Duration of the courses are from 04 to 12 hours categorised in three levels i.e. Basic, Advance and Special for different kind of businesses. The trainings are being imparted through Training Partners empanelled for this purpose. EP Infoways is Registered Training Partner.

Why This Training is Important –

Mandatory Training and Certification of ‘Food Safety Supervisors’ for FBO

Kindly refer to our communication regarding FSSAI mandatory training and certification of food Safety supervisors

As you may be aware that In pursuance to section 16(3)(h) of Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, the Food Safety Standards Authority of India(FSSAI) has to provide certification and training programs in food safety and standards for persons who are involved in food business whether as food business operators, employees or otherwise. Also list of mandatory courses as notified by FSSAI, as per category of licensed FBO is given in enclosures.

The food Authority, in its 24th meeting dated 21.09.2017 approved in principle the guidelines of Food Safety Training and Certification that envisage, inter-alia, that all food business having either central licence or state licence should have trained and certified Food Safety Supervisor, for every 25 food handlers or part thereof in each of their premises. These supervisors would carry periodic training to all food handlers in their premises and maintain records of food safety audit and inspections. Kindly see the attachments as enclosed for official order.

Accordingly all business operators are advised to nominate at least one food safety supervisor, for every 25 food handlers, in their each of their premises and get them trained under FSSAI-FoSTaC by 31st December 2018 through training partners empanelled by FSSAI.

IMPORTANCE OF FOOD SAFETY SUPERVISOR CERTIFICATE:

Per Order of Food Safety and Standard Authority of India, Section 16(3)h of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 dated 6th October 2017, Training becomes mandatory for All Central and State Licensed FBO (Food Business Operator ) under Food Safety Supervisor Act 2006 and so it is accorded under the Central License or State License to have at least one trained Food Safety Supervisor for a minimum of 25 food handling staff.
